π Chalice Coral Care Guide
Lighting:
Moderate to low light (PAR 50β150).
Too much direct light can cause bleaching, so place them in shaded or lower areas of the tank.
Acclimate slowly to new lighting conditions.
Water Flow:
Low to moderate, indirect flow.
Strong flow can damage their delicate tissue, but some movement helps keep them clean.
Placement:
Best placed on the sandbed or lower rockwork.
Provide room around them since chalices can extend sweeper tentacles at night and sting nearby corals.
Feeding:
Chalice corals are photosynthetic but benefit greatly from supplemental feeding.
Nighttime feeding (when feeding tentacles are out) is most effective.
Water Parameters:
Temperature: 75β78Β°F (24β26Β°C)
Salinity: 1.024β1.026 SG
pH: 8.1β8.4
Alkalinity: 8β10 dKH
Calcium: 400β450 ppm
Magnesium: 1250β1350 ppm
Growth & Care Notes:
Chalice corals encrust over rockwork and can develop vibrant rainbow colors under actinic lighting.
Handle with care, as their tissue is fragile and can recede quickly if stressed.
Maintain stable parameters to avoid tissue loss.
β Quick Tip: Chalices often color up more vividly under lower light, so donβt be afraid to place them in shaded areas.
